Nepean Midget AAA vanquishes CIHA Green Midget AAA in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Nepean Midget AAA Raiders defeated the CIHA Green Midget AAA Green in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. CIHA Green Midget AAA got a shootout goal from Trevor Finch. In addition to the clincher, Nepean Midget AAA got a shootout goal from Paul Larabie.

The Raiders came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Nepean Midget AAA trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Green’s Guillaume Pelchat at 3:10 in the first period. The Raiders knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Pelchat at 17:37 in the third period.

Larabie had one goal and two assists to lead Nepean Midget AAA. Larabie scored on the power play 11:56 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Nepean Midget AAA. An interference penalty on Bryson Michel had put the Raiders on the power play. Ryan Kaufman assisted on the tally.

Nepean Midget AAA put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow CIHA Green Midget AAA to score on any of its three power plays.

Nepean Midget AAA additionally got points from Robbie Pickard, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Nepean Midget AAA included Nicholas Domitrovic and Geoff Dempster, who scored one goal each. More assists for Nepean Midget AAA came via JJ Boucher and Matt Arial, who each chipped in one.

The Green’s penalty kill unit could not stop the Raiders’ power play, which converted on three of five opportunities. CIHA Green Midget AAA’s defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Green are averaging 2.5 goals against for the season.

CIHA Green Midget AAA also got points from Matthew Grouchy, who also registered one goal and one assist. CIHA Green Midget AAA also got a goal from Steve Quint as well. In addition, CIHA Green Midget AAA received assists from Cameron Pound, Tyler Grill, James Hounsome, and Jacob Roberts, who contributed one each.

Nepean Midget AAA’s Anand Oberoi stopped 19 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Raiders incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Zachary Kott made 24 saves for CIHA Green Midget AAA on 28 shots. The Green incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
