Cumberland Midget AAA rolls over Hawkesbury Midget AAA, 6-1

The Cumberland Midget AAA Grads were firing on all cylinders against the Hawkesbury Midget AAA Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Grads emerged with a 6-1 win.

Cumberland Midget AAA’s penalty kill excelled, as the Grads gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

Cumberland Midget AAA was sparked by Zakary Rodrigue, who grabbed one goal. Rodrigue scored 11:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cumberland Midget AAA. Ethan Cahill picked up the assist.

The Grads stifled Hawkesbury Midget AAA’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cumberland Midget AAA was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 18 penalty minutes.

Cumberland Midget AAA also got a goal from Mathieu Plante as well. In addition, Cumberland Midget AAA received assists from TJ Price, who had two and Tristan Francis, Daniel Mellon, Alex Wall, Noah Johnston, Tommy Stevenson, Francois Drouin, and Wil Murray, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks were led by Shownahnonkon Thompson, who scored the team’s only goal. Thompson scored 7:43 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Wells provided the assist.

Kai Edmonds made 18 saves for the Grads on 19 shots. Cumberland Midget AAA registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Hawkesbury Midget AAA’s Alex Labreche stopped 22 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
