This past weekend, the Hawkesbury Hawks held their annual camp in Rockland, where they evaluated over 140 prospects, in search of future Hawks. The crop of players was plentiful, and bore fruit for the Hawks organization, with 4 players signing with the club for the upcoming 2017 – 18 season.
Joel Frazee from the Belle Tire U18 team in Michigan will bring his breakneck speed and lightning quick hands to the Hawks' top 12.
“Joel has tremendous speed and agility, with hands that can keep up to his speed. I have seen Joel score some nifty goals and if the defenders don’t stay humble to his speed, they will be reading the name on the back of his jersey often,” says Hawkesbury Coach and GM Rick Dorval.
Mammoth power forward Tanner Tarbell from Stanstead Prep School was another of GM Rick Dorval's signings. Dorval says, "Tanner is a power forward with speed and a lethal shot. At 6' 4", 200lbs, he is physically imposing on opponents. He has already gained NCAA D1 interest from several schools and we are proud he chose Hawkesbury to help him pursue his hockey goals."
Matthew Gasuik, team captain from Nichols Prep School, rounded out the signings at the forward position.
GM Dorval thinks Gasiuk, can be a dominant force in tight offensively for Hawkesbury. He said, “Matt is a skilled forward that has the ability to find his teammates all over the ice. He also has that scoring touch around the net.”
Matt was recently recognized with the Nichols school “Alumni Cup” which is given to the best male athlete of the graduating class.
Finally, GM Dorval showed a little bit of love to his goaltenders by signing Nicolas Guillemette from the Saint-Eustache Vikings of the Quebec Midget AAA League.
Dorval, who is looking to improve Hawkesbury's transition game, says, “Nicolas is a smooth skating defensemen with excellent puck handling skills. A local player with his talent and ability, that lives 40 minutes from Hawkesbury was a must have.”
Nicolas' goal is to eventually play NCAA.
The Hawks are happy that these players chose Hawkesbury as the springboard that will provide him the opportunity to pursue their dreams. Welcome to the Hawks, gentlemen. Time to fly!
