Before graduating to the Canisius College Griffons, Carl won two titles with the Hawks.

He was named Most Valuable Player in the 2006 playoffs after recording 22 points in 16 playoff games. That season, he was tied for fifth on the Hawks and tied for team lead among defensemen with 39 points during the regular season.
